Job Description:

Airbus Commercial Aircraft is looking for a Supervisor of In-service Repair Certification to join our Mobile Engineering Center based in Mobile, AL.

In this role you will be responsible to the HO of Airworthiness & Quality to ensure that all Airworthiness aspects of engineering activities are in compliance with applicable EASA and FAA requirements . Primarily, they manage a team of In-service Repair Certification engineers within Airbus Americas Engineering. In particular, their ability to assist the HO of Airworthiness & Quality in the integration of Engineering reporting and accountabilities into the AA region as well as the integration of AAE into the home Engineering functions in Europe is critical to success in this role.

Meet the Team:

The Engineering Center in Mobile, Alabama houses hundreds of Airbus engineers who assist in the design and development of Airbus commercial aircraft cabins, including aftermarket upgrades, reconfigurations and services of all product types across the globe.

Your Challenges:

  • People & Team Management: 50%

    • Overseeing the day-to-day activities of the In-service Repair team, including task assignment, scheduling, delivery and team performance

    • Responsible for performance of the teams to deliver to schedule, cost and quality

    • Allocating resources, such as personnel, equipment, and budget.

    • Identify training needs, providing guidance, and facilitating the professional development of team members

    • Conduct performance evaluations, provisioning feedback, and addressing performance issues

    • Facilitate effective communication within the team, with other departments, and with stakeholders

    • Serve as a member of the Airbus Americas Engineering management team

    • Support EASA and internal DOA audits 

    • Meet routinely with Airworthiness counterparts in Europe

    • Focal for Repair design assurance within the airworthiness function of Airbus Americas Engineering

    • Development and support of strategic projects related to in-service Repair certification in Airbus Americas Engineering

    • Work closely with Worldwide Airworthiness groups for Aircraft Repairs (1IA) maintaining all Service Level Agreements

  • Technical & Managing Certification:  45%

    • Lead and conduct the airworthiness approvals of Airbus products and product changes with the certificating Authority, and validation of these approvals by the importing countries' Authorities.

    • Manage a varied, multi-ATA and multi-program, subject workload in accordance with Customer Services' sometimes challenging business needs and customers' expectations, while ensuring conformity with certification requirements and DOA processes.

    • Ensure good communication and exchange with other members of the global Certification Team, and other certification functions to ensure consistency in the Way of Working and certification approach ("Speak One Voice").

    • Consult, and sometimes challenge, Technical, Change Management, and Certification Specialists to ensure appropriate solutions, particularly to account for the variety of in-service aircraft configurations and aircraft certification to maintain strong competence across this wide domain.

    • Perform airworthiness approvals in accordance with Airbus Design Organization Approval (DOA) privileges:

    • Repair & Design Approval Form (RDAF) approval

Your Boarding Pass:

  • Bachelor’s of Science degree in Engineering or relevant field. 

Preferred Education

  • Master’s of Science degree in Engineering or relevant field. 

Required Experience

  • 20+ years progressive experience in engineering programs related to Commercial Transport Category aircraft

  • Progressive roles related to aircraft airworthiness certification topics related to product development, major modifications and return to service of fleet aircraft.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience in a complex, matrix organization

  • Speaking: Daily able to speak in conversations and meetings, deliver information and participate in communications.

  • Equipment Operation (personal computer, telephone, copies, fax machine, and related office equipment and using electronic identification card to enter building floors and internal doors): Daily able to operate most office and personal electronic equipment and some tools including production tools such as hydraulic lifts.

  • Carrying: Several times a week able to carry documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.

  • Lifting: Several times a week able to lift documents, tools, drawings, electronic equipment up to 30lbs/14kgs.

  • Pushing / Pulling: Several times a week able to push and pull small office furniture and some equipment and tools.

  • Sitting: Daily able to sit for long periods of time in meetings, working on the computer.

  • Squatting / Kneeling: Several times a month able to squat or kneel to retrieve or replace items stored on low shelving.

  • Standing: Daily able to stand for discussions in offices or on the production floor.

  • Travel: able to travel independently and at short notice. Once a month

  • Walking (include routine walking such as to a shared printer to retrieve documents): Daily able to walk through office and production areas including uneven surfaces.

  • Appropriate hearing/eye protection may also be required when visiting the shop floor
