Job Description

We are seeking a Sr. Azure Infrastructure Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is responsible for architecting, deploying, and managing secure, scalable, and resilient Azure cloud infrastructure, with a focus on ensuring business continuity and disaster recovery for critical workloads. You will lead DR solution design and implementation, collaborating with cross-functional teams to align DR strategies with enterprise standards and industry best practices. The ideal candidate will demonstrate deep technical expertise, a passion for automation, and a commitment to operational excellence.

Your role in our mission:

Azure Infrastructure & Cloud Engineering:

  • Design, implement, and manage robust Azure infrastructure solutions, including compute, networking, storage, and security components.
  • Deploy and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using tools such as ARM, Bicep, Terraform, and Azure DevOps pipelines.
  • Optimize infrastructure for performance, availability, and cost, ensuring alignment with the Microsoft Well-Architected Framework.

Disaster Recovery & Azure Site Recovery (ASR):

  • Architect and implement end-to-end DR solutions leveraging Azure Site Recovery, Azure Backup, and DRaaS models.
  • Define and enforce RTO/RPO objectives, failover/failback procedures, and test plans.
  • Configure cross-region replication, paired-region resilience, and failover routing using Azure Traffic Manager and Front Door.
  • Integrate ASR and Azure Backup with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Automation Accounts for proactive monitoring and alerting.
  • Maintain and automate DR runbooks, documentation, and IaC repositories in Azure DevOps or Git.
  • Lead DR drills, validation, and continuous improvement of DR processes.

Security, Compliance & Governance:

  • Implement governance, security, and compliance through Azure Policy, Blueprints, and RBAC.
  • Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability management, and ensure compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Support advanced networking (hub-and-spoke, hybrid connectivity) and identity/access management (AAD, RBAC, AD sync, MFA).

Automation & DevOps:

  • Automate deployments, patching, and monitoring using Azure DevOps, PowerShell, or Bash scripting.
  • Collaborate with development and DevOps teams for CI/CD and environment management.
  • Drive observability improvements by ensuring comprehensive logging and telemetry.

Incident Response & Operational Excellence:

  • Lead real-time incident resolution, perform Root Cause Analysis (RCA), and participate in on-call rotation.
  • Provide escalation support during DR events and critical incidents.
  • Document recurring issues and resolutions, contributing to a shared knowledge base.

Valued skills and experience:

Certifications:

  • Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) certification is mandatory (if you do not currently have one, you will need to go thru one)
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert or equivalent preferred.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).

Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years in enterprise-level Azure infrastructure engineering, with at least 2 years focused on DR/ASR solutions.

Technical Proficiency:

  • Deep expertise in Azure Site Recovery, Azure Backup, and DRaaS.
  • Advanced proficiency in Terraform, ARM/Bicep templates, and Infrastructure as Code.
  • Strong scripting skills (PowerShell, Bash, Azure CLI).
  • Hands-on experience with Azure networking, security, and monitoring tools.
  • Familiarity with Azure DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and automation.
  • Experience with hybrid cloud DR (on-prem to Azure) is a plus.

Soft Skills:

  • Excellent troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, globally distributed team.
  • Motivated, proactive, and committed to secure, reliable systems.
