Job Description
  • This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Software Engineer (PHP) based in the United States. This is a high-impact full-stack engineering role focused on building and evolving a mission-critical platform that automates merchant statement analysis and proposal generation at scale. You will work on a complex, high-throughput system that transforms raw financial statements into structured insights, pricing analysis, and ready-to-sign commercial proposals in seconds. The role involves deep backend and frontend contributions across PHP/Laravel and Vue, with ownership over performance, scalability, and maintainability of a large, production-grade codebase. You will collaborate closely with product managers, engineers, and SRE teams to design robust solutions that power core business workflows for partners and clients. This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys solving intricate system challenges, improving legacy architectures, and delivering measurable impact in a fast-moving agile environment. You will have significant autonomy while contributing to high engineering standards across design, testing, and deployment practices.
  • Accountabilities: Design, build, and enhance full-stack features using PHP (Laravel) and Vue, contributing to a platform that automates complex merchant fee analysis and proposal generation workflows. Own end-to-end software quality by implementing unit, integration, and end-to-end tests, ensuring robust validation from development through production deployment. Improve and refactor a large, established codebase by simplifying complex areas, reducing technical debt, and strengthening system maintainability. Optimize database performance and design efficient MySQL queries and schemas to support high-volume, data-intensive processing. Collaborate with Product Managers to refine requirements, define technical solutions, and ensure alignment between business needs and system architecture. Participate in code reviews, promote engineering best practices, and contribute to raising overall code quality and consistency across the team. Partner with SRE teams to ensure systems are observable, resilient, secure, and production-ready, while helping resolve incidents and performance issues. Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives, including development workflows, tooling, and engineering standards across the SDLC. Requirements: 5+ years of experience building complex software applications, ideally in full-stack or backend-heavy environments. Strong proficiency in PHP with modern development practices, including solid experience with Laravel or similar frameworks. Deep understanding of object-oriented programming, software design patterns, and scalable system architecture. Strong experience with relational databases such as MySQL, including schema design, query optimization, and performance tuning. Hands-on experience with modern frontend development using JavaScript/TypeScript and Vue (or similar frameworks). Proven ability to work effectively within large, complex, and evolving codebases, making safe and impactful changes with limited guidance. Experience with Git, CI/CD pipelines, and secure software development practices. Ability to contribute across the full software development lifecycle, from design to deployment and monitoring. Comfortable using AI-assisted development tools responsibly, with strong judgment in validating outputs. Strong collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams. Nice to have: experience with Redis, Docker, AWS services (ECS, S3, SQS), monitoring tools like Sentry or New Relic, and cloud-native SaaS architectures. Exposure to Python or ML-adjacent tools, or experience integrating AI capabilities into applications, is a plus. Track record of improving engineering practices such as test coverage, system reliability, or legacy modernization. Benefits: Competitive salary range: $115,000 – $130,000 USD, plus bonus Remote-first working culture Flexible paid time off (Flex PTO) Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance 13 paid holidays annually Paid company volunteer days Opportunity to work on a high-scale, data-intensive fintech platform Strong engineering culture focused on quality, autonomy, and continuous improvement
