Job Description

About Stellar Health:

Historically, US Healthcare has relied on a fee-for-service reimbursement system where providers are paid based on the quantity of patient visits and procedures, rather than the quality of health outcomes.

At Stellar Health, we help primary care providers put patient health first. Our platform - a mix of technology, people, and analytics - supports providers at the point of care, delivering real-time patient information, activating practice staff, and empowering providers and care teams with incentives that reward the work they are already doing to keep patients healthy. Using the Stellar App, our web-based, point-of-care tool; practices receive a simple checklist of recommended actions that support the best quality care. Providers and care teams are then paid monthly for each action they complete, and Payors save money in reduced healthcare costs along the way.

Stellar is a US-based Health-tech backed by Top VCs (General Atlantic, Point72, & Primary Venture Partners) with an established product & proven operating model. We’ve shown that we make a real difference for physician practices and their patients.

About the position:

As a Senior Software Engineer - 2, you will drive outcomes that may span multiple teams while developing core features of our healthcare platform. The Stellar Engineering Team offers an experienced and mature engineering culture, product development best practices, and an environment where every engineer impacts the Company’s success. Each team member, regardless of seniority, has the opportunity to have a direct, measurable impact on the product

You'll function as Tech Lead on projects that touch multiple squads. You are drafting Technical Design Docs (TDDs), gathering requirements from stakeholders across the org, building consensus on the path forward, and seeing the work through to a clean launch. You'll be a go-to expert in your technical area and a trusted voice on decisions that affect other teams.

Our team focuses on iterating quickly on features and products to determine what works best and drives business goals. We look for engineers who write clean, scalable code and contribute to our collaborative team culture.

We're focused on creating a seamless and frictionless experience for healthcare providers working in the Stellar application. This includes ingesting and transforming data so that providers trust our application as an up-to-date source of truth, evolving the frontend user experience to be more intuitive and insightful, and everything in between.

The team is tight knit with high ownership, and your work will have a meaningful impact on our ability to directly improve patient access to health care.

How you'll make an impact:

  • Work on mission-critical data pipelines, ensuring they are scalable, efficient, and flexible to handle various customer and internal data.

  • Ensure our users are presented with timely and accurate information that helps them do their job.

  • Evolve the architecture to improve operational efficiency and support business growth.

  • Function as Tech Lead on projects that touch multiple squads — scoping and staging multi-team work into well-defined milestones, surfacing dependencies and risks early so other teams can plan around them.

  • Drive Technical Design Docs (TDDs) for cross-team initiatives — gather requirements from stakeholders in other squads, draft the proposal, run review, and build consensus on the path forward.

  • Set technical direction at the project and/or service level; consistently influence decisions across multiple squads.

  • Own large parts of our core product end-to-end, including high quality and on-time launches of cross-cutting projects.

  • Write clear and concise production code for the Stellar Health Platform and own the technical testing and performance plan for your projects.

  • Set consistent standards for code; testing and fixing bugs throughout the process.

  • Provide technical advice and weigh in on technical decisions that impact other teams or the company at large; research and propose new technologies.

  • Proactively tackle technical debt that crosses team lines before it grows.

  • Provide meaningful feedback on design docs and architecture for projects outside the Autoprogression team's core area.

  • Mentor more junior engineers with a focus on sponsoring their first cross-team work.

  • Contribute to Stellar's Engineering Culture and ensure engineers are writing clear and concise production code for the Stellar Health Platform.

What You'll Bring:

  • At least six years of total experience, with recent hands-on experience writing production-level code (Python is preferred / Java / C++ / Go)

  • Experience in a cloud platform such as AWS (preferred), GCP, Azure

  • Expertise in relational databases, such as PostgreSQL

  • Experience driving medium to large projects from inception to completion

  • Great written and verbal communication skills. We work with people across time zones and diverse backgrounds, so you need to be able to communicate both effectively and inclusively.

  • Experience working on data pipelines and an understanding of the relevant nonfunctional requirements

Who will love this job:

  • At least seven years of total professional engineering experience, with recent hands-on experience writing production-level back-end code (Python preferred / Java / C++ / Go) as well as front-end technologies (JavaScript/TypeScript and frameworks like React, Angular or VueJS).

  • A track record of driving cross-team technical initiatives end-to-end, including authoring TDDs (or equivalent design proposals) that built consensus across multiple stakeholders.

  • Experience functioning as Tech Lead (or de facto Tech Lead) on a project that spanned more than one team.

  • Demonstrated influence on technical decisions adopted by teams outside your own.

  • Experience in a cloud platform such as AWS (preferred), GCP, or Azure.

  • Expertise in relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication. You can navigate disagreement to a shared decision and bring an audience along with you. We work with people across time zones and diverse backgrounds, so you need to be able to communicate both effectively and inclusively.

  • Data platform experience (preferred) using data cloud solutions like Snowflake or Databricks, and dbt for data transformations.
