Senior Shopify Integration Engineer (Contract)

Role Overview

We are seeking a Senior Shopify Engineer to lead the technical integration of a bespoke Product Studio - a React-based 2D product customizer - into a Shopify Plus storefront. You will be the technical bridge between our custom design interface and the Shopify e-commerce engine, ensuring a seamless user journey from design to checkout for a high-end luxury fashion brand.

Key Responsibilities

• Iframe Architecture: Lead the integration of a standalone React application into the Shopify Liquid framework, ensuring smooth communication between the two environments.
• Dynamic Pricing Engine: Implement secure logic to calculate real-time product pricing based on 2D customisation selections (fabrics, patches, hardware) passed from the React app.
• Checkout Integration: Configure the "Add to Cart" flow to capture custom design metadata and a dynamically generated 2D thumbnail of the user’s creation, passing them as line-item properties to the Shopify checkout.
• Production Workflow Automation: Build or configure a backend service (via Webhooks) to dispatch detailed design briefs and high-resolution assets to the production team once a customization order is processed.
• Performance & UX: Ensure the iframe implementation is responsive and optimized for mobile, maintaining the premium feel of a luxury shopping experience.

Technical Requirements

• Shopify Mastery: Extensive experience with Shopify Plus, Custom Apps, and the Storefront/Admin APIs.
• React & Frontend: Strong proficiency in React.js and experience with CSS-in-JS or Tailwind for maintaining visual consistency.
• Bridge Communication: Expert knowledge of the postMessage API to sync the customizer state with the Shopify parent theme (e.g., updating cart counts, price displays).
• 2D Image Handling: Familiarity with handling dynamic image compositions, canvas exports, or 2D layering logic to generate design previews.
• Liquid & Theme Development: Ability to modify existing Shopify themes to accommodate the customizer embed without breaking site-wide styles.
• Security: Deep understanding of HMAC validation and secure API proxying to protect custom pricing logic.

Preferred Ǫualifications

• Previous experience in luxury e-commerce or high-ticket "made-to-order" retail.
• Experience with Klaviyo or Orderly for triggering asset-rich transactional emails.
