Our partner is looking for a Senior Engineering Specialist - Waterway Structures based in United States. This is an opportunity for a senior civil engineering professional to lead the delivery of complex waterway and waterfront infrastructure projects. You will work across the full project lifecycle, from initial investigations and concept development through final design, bidding, and construction services. The role focuses on technically challenging structures such as locks, dams, hydraulic steel structures, pump stations, hydraulic gates, and waterfront facilities. You will provide technical leadership while mentoring engineers and guiding multidisciplinary project teams toward practical, sustainable solutions. The position combines advanced structural design, project management, regulatory coordination, and client-focused problem solving. You will have the opportunity to influence major public-sector infrastructure projects while working in a fully remote environment. This role is well suited to an experienced PE who enjoys complex engineering challenges and wants to make a meaningful impact on critical waterway infrastructure.
- Accountabilities Lead and scope capital projects from initial concept and site investigation through detailed design, bidding, and construction, ensuring projects meet technical, budgetary, regulatory, and schedule requirements. Forecast project timelines, develop staffing plans, coordinate resources, and manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining quality and meeting deadlines. Oversee the design and bidding of complex waterway structures, including locks, dams, hydraulic steel structures, pump stations, hydraulic gates, and waterfront infrastructure. Identify and resolve complex design challenges involving site constraints, applicable regulations, project budgets, construction requirements, and delivery schedules. Conduct site investigations and due diligence, including utility research, agency requirements, ordinance reviews, regulatory assessments, and site visits to establish comprehensive project development guidelines. Provide senior technical oversight for waterway structural design and review complex structural engineering deliverables for accuracy, quality, constructability, and compliance. Oversee the preparation of construction specifications, public bid documents, technical documentation, and construction cost estimates for municipal and public-sector clients. Apply advanced knowledge of concrete, steel, wood, and masonry design to complex engineering projects and provide solutions to challenging structural conditions. Manage, mentor, and develop engineering staff while providing technical guidance and fostering strong project delivery practices. Support project teams and clients by applying sound engineering judgment and delivering cost-effective, sustainable solutions aligned with project objectives. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field. 15+ years of relevant water engineering experience, with substantial experience involving waterway structures and complex infrastructure projects. Active Professional Engineer (PE) license required. Demonstrated experience with structural engineering analysis and design software such as SAP2000 or STAAD.Pro. Proficiency with AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or comparable engineering design software. Strong knowledge of complex structural design principles, including concrete, steel, wood, and masonry systems. Experience managing capital projects from concept through construction, including project scoping, scheduling, budgeting, design, bidding, and construction documentation. Strong understanding of site investigations, regulatory requirements, utility coordination, due diligence, and public-sector project delivery. Prior experience with U.S. Army Corps of Engineers design procedures and Dam Safety Guidelines is a plus. Proven ability to lead, mentor, and provide technical direction to engineering teams. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to develop practical solutions to complex technical and project constraints. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to read, write, and understand English for professional communications and technical instructions. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities, projects, and deadlines effectively.
