- This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Director, Government & Multilateral Affairs based in India. This is a senior global leadership role focused on shaping policy environments that strengthen and sustain the teaching workforce. You will develop government and multilateral engagement strategies while building coalitions across public institutions, donors, philanthropy, research, and civil society. The role combines strategic advisory work, policy influence, partnership development, and thought leadership across diverse markets. You will translate global policy opportunities into practical support for local organizations, helping them strengthen government engagement and access public and multilateral funding. Working across regions and cultures, you will serve as a trusted advisor and connector in complex policy environments. This opportunity is ideal for an experienced public affairs or development leader motivated by education, systems change, and globally collaborative impact.
- Accountabilities Lead global strategies focused on teacher workforce development, building coalitions among governments, multilateral organizations, philanthropic institutions, researchers, and civil society. Develop and strengthen strategic relationships with public institutions, donors, and other influential stakeholders to advance policy frameworks and collective action. Advise network partners on government engagement strategies, public-sector relationships, policy opportunities, and approaches to strengthen long-term organizational sustainability. Identify opportunities to unlock public and multilateral funding and support partners in translating international and regional policy developments into local impact. Provide strategic guidance on expanding opportunities for fellow placement and influencing education systems within local contexts. Generate and share practical insights, evidence, tools, and learning resources that strengthen public-sector engagement capabilities. Contribute to thought leadership and represent the organization in global and regional discussions concerning the future of the teaching profession and education systems. Facilitate cross-sector conversations and convenings that bring together diverse stakeholders around shared policy and workforce priorities. Collaborate closely with regional and global teams to ensure coordinated, high-impact support across countries and partner organizations. Navigate complex political, institutional, and operational environments while maintaining strong relationships and advancing strategic priorities. Requirements 12+ years of experience in government relations, public administration, international development, public policy, or a closely related field. Proven experience working with or within governments, public institutions, multilateral organizations, development agencies, donors, or comparable institutions. Demonstrated experience supporting grassroots or locally led organizations in developing effective public-sector engagement strategies, particularly within developing-country contexts. Strong understanding of policymaking, development financing, government systems, and education-sector dynamics. Exceptional relationship-building, facilitation, coaching, and stakeholder-management abilities across cultures and geographies. Strong strategic thinking and the ability to operate effectively within complex political and operational environments. Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and build alignment across diverse interests. Ability to work effectively in a global, networked, fast-paced environment with colleagues and partners across multiple time zones. Comfortable working independently while also collaborating closely with distributed, multidisciplinary teams. Fluency in English is required; proficiency in additional languages is strongly preferred. Willingness to travel internationally, with up to approximately 20% travel expected. Candidates must already have valid work and residency authorization in the country where they will be based, as visa sponsorship and immigration support are not provided.
