Job Description

OVERVIEW:

Our client is a forward-thinking Australian accounting firm looking for a Senior Accountant to join their global team. This role is designed for a technical expert who thrives in the Australian tax landscape.

The successful candidate will initially focus on mastering the firm’s compliance standards and client portfolio. As you establish yourself, you will be mentored in Business Advisory and will eventually take on the responsibility of reviewing junior staff as the team expands. This is an ideal role for a high-level compliance specialist ready to transition into leadership and strategy.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare and manage high-quality financial statements and tax returns for Companies, Trusts, Partnerships, and Individuals.
  • Manage complex Australian tax matters, including Division 7A compliance, Capital Gains Tax (CGT), and Fringe Benefits Tax (FBT).
  • Oversee and maintain accurate client records primarily in Xero, ensuring all files meet the firm's quality standards.
  • Transition into reviewing the work of less-experienced team members and providing technical guidance as the team grows.
  • Work closely with the Principal to learn and implement strategic Tax Planning and Business Advisory services.
  • Manage statutory reporting and ensure all GST and Income Tax obligations are met accurately and on time.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 5+ years experience in an Australian Public Practice accounting environment.
  • Expert-level knowledge of the Australian tax system and the ATO lodgment cycle.
  • Advanced hands-on proficiency in Xero.
  • A strong desire to mentor others and transition into a Team Lead or Reviewer role.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accountancy; CPA (PH) or progress toward CA/CPA (AU) is highly regarded.
  • Exceptional English communication skills, with the ability to document technical queries and provide clear feedback.

PREFERRED SKILLS (nice to have):

  • Experience with SMSF administration.
  • Familiarity with BGL (Simple Fund 360) software.
