- This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Principal/Senior Staff Engineer based in Canada. This is a high-impact engineering leadership role at an early-stage, fast-scaling product organization building critical infrastructure for modern insurance experiences. You will work at the core of complex technical challenges, shaping systems that enable secure, efficient, and scalable data exchange. The role requires strong architectural thinking combined with hands-on execution, as you will be deeply involved in both designing and delivering production systems. You will collaborate closely with senior engineering leadership to solve high-priority technical problems and define long-term system direction. The environment is fast-moving, product-driven, and highly collaborative, with a strong emphasis on ownership and engineering excellence. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguity and enjoys building foundational systems from the ground up.
- Accountabilities: Lead the design and development of scalable, secure, and high-performance systems supporting core product infrastructure and data flows. Collaborate closely with engineering leadership to solve complex technical challenges and define system architecture decisions. Build and maintain backend services using TypeScript, Postgres, and AWS, ensuring reliability, scalability, and maintainability. Take ownership of critical product features from concept through production, contributing directly to hands-on implementation. Identify system bottlenecks and drive improvements in performance, reliability, and operational efficiency across distributed systems. Contribute to engineering best practices, including code quality, testing strategies, and architectural standards. Requirements: Extensive experience in software engineering, with a proven track record of building and scaling production systems in high-growth or large-scale environments. Strong expertise in TypeScript, PostgreSQL, and AWS cloud infrastructure, with hands-on experience designing distributed systems. Demonstrated ability to operate at both strategic architectural level and deep implementation level when needed. Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to navigate ambiguity and deliver pragmatic engineering solutions. Experience working in product-focused engineering teams with a strong sense of ownership and accountability. Excellent collaboration and communication skills, with the ability to influence technical direction across teams. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience. Benefits: Competitive compensation ranging from $190,000 to $220,000+, depending on experience. Generous equity grants, making you a true owner in the company’s success. Comprehensive healthcare coverage, including medical, dental, and vision for employees and dependents. Unlimited paid time off to support rest, recovery, and work-life balance. Fully remote work environment across the United States and Canada with a $1,000 home office stipend. 401(k) plan with 3.5% employer match. Weekly Friday lunch reimbursement and additional team perks.
