Job Description
Location: This role is based at our Bothell, WA office, with the option to work a few days a week remotely.
Travel: Up to 20%, domestic and international.
Job ID: 1630
The Role:
We are looking for a Group Product Manager, Quantum Networking and Devices to join our Networking and Security technical team. As Group Product Manager, you'll be part of a cross-functional team whose mission is to lead IonQ on its journey to build advanced quantum networking technologies to solve the world's most complex problems.
In this role, you will be responsible for owning the full-stack product strategy for IonQ's quantum networking systems — from the photonic and atomic devices that generate and store entanglement to the control plane that orchestrates entanglement distribution across a real, multi-node network. The ideal candidate is a rigorous systems thinker who is equally comfortable debating photonics with research scientists and APIs with developers, and who thrives at the frontier where physics and product meet.
Responsibilities:
- Define and own the multi-year product roadmap for quantum networking and devices, prioritizing investments across entanglement generation, the integration of quantum repeaters, and the control plane against measurable improvements in fidelity, rate, range, and time-to-market.
- Drive business growth for the quantum networking product line by identifying market opportunities, aligning product strategy with customer and application needs, supporting sales engagements, and contributing to revenue-generating product launches and partnerships.
- Lead cross-functional execution across hardware, software, research, and go-to-market teams, translating physics-layer capabilities into product specs, milestones, and customer-ready offerings on a committed cadence.
- Shape IonQ's quantum networking cloud and SaaS surface by defining how customers discover, schedule, and consume networking primitives via APIs, and partnering with engineering to ship developer-facing experiences that drive adoption.
- Serve as the product authority on quantum networking with customers and partners — including national labs, government sponsors, hyperscalers, and enterprise design partners — turning their input into validated requirements and committed roadmap.
- Contribute to functional planning and budgeting, owning the portion of the product budget required to execute the networking roadmap and presenting progress to executives, the company, and external audiences.
- Set the methods, frameworks, and trade-off models that the broader product organization adopts for evaluating networking and devices investments, raising the bar for technical product rigor across IonQ.
Requirements:
- 8+ years of professional experience in product management for technical, hardware-adjacent, or research-driven products, with experience shipping at the intersection of physical devices and software, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Bachelor's degree in physics, electrical engineering, computer science, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Working fluency in quantum optics and/or photonics — sufficient to engage substantively with engineers and researchers on ion–photon interfaces, entanglement protocols, photonic component trade-offs, and detector physics.
- Strong grounding in classical networking — protocols, architecture, control planes, time synchronization, and how distributed systems handle latency, scheduling, and reliability.
- Demonstrated SaaS product experience — you've shipped cloud or API products at scale and understand what makes a backend technology feel like a product to a developer.
- Track record of leading complex, cross-functional programs without formal authority and earning the trust of senior engineering and research counterparts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical trade-offs into clear narratives for executives, customers, and external audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in physics, electrical engineering, or a related technical field.
- Hands-on product or engineering experience with quantum repeaters, quantum memories, or QKD systems.
- Background working with trapped-ion, neutral-atom, or other matter-qubit modalities.
- Experience working with US government and defense customers (NIST, IARPA, DOE, DoD).
- Active involvement in relevant standards bodies (IETF QIRG, ETSI ISG QKD, etc.).
The approximate base salary range for this position is $145,920 - $191,047. The total compensation package includes base, bonus, equity, and a range of benefit options found on our career site.
