Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Geotechnical Engineer to lead and support geotechnical investigations, analyses, and designs. This role involves managing geotechnical studies, overseeing field investigations and construction support, mentoring junior staff, and collaborating with clients and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality engineering solutions.

- Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering required; Master’s degree in Geotechnical Engineering preferred
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred
- 15+ years of geotechnical engineering experience
- Strong knowledge of geotechnical engineering principles, soil and rock mechanics, slope stability, settlement analysis, earthquake engineering, pavement engineering, and groundwater hydrogeology
- Experience with geotechnical investigations, foundation design, retaining structures, earthwork, and construction materials testing
- Proficiency with geotechnical software including slope stability, pile modeling, and site response analysis tools
- Familiarity with geotechnical standards, guidelines, and deliverables preferred
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and time management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a team environment
- Experience mentoring junior engineers and reviewing technical work
- Successful past testimony history (either trials or depositions) a plus
- Ability to travel to project sites and access active construction sites in varying environmental conditions
Responsibilities
- Lead geotechnical investigations, analyses, and design for infrastructure and transportation projects including bridges, highways, railways, airports, pipelines, and commercial developments
- Plan and oversee subsurface explorations, laboratory testing, instrumentation monitoring, and geotechnical data interpretation
- Perform analyses and design for foundations, retaining walls, slope stability, seepage, earthwork, and seismic/geohazard mitigation
- Provide geotechnical support during construction activities including grading, pile driving, drilled shafts, trenching, and foundation construction
- Review and approve geotechnical reports, construction documents, and consultant designs
- Develop project scopes, proposals, budgets, and schedules for geotechnical investigations and design services
- Coordinate with clients, contractors, government agencies, and multidisciplinary teams to ensure project success and compliance with applicable standards
- Mentor and supervise junior engineers and technical staff while supporting quality assurance initiatives and professional development
- Support business development efforts and maintain strong client relationships through responsive technical leadership and project delivery
Physical Demands, Overtime, and Travel Requirements
Physical Demands—Work is performed both in an office setting and at outside locations (i.e., client’s office, industrial, construction, and/or residential sites). The employee is frequently required to stand, walk on sloped roofs, sit, climb ladders, bend, climb inside attics, crawl under homes and tunnels, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, talk, hear, use handheld equipment and/or tools, and drive a motor vehicle to job sites. Employees may lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Employees must be sharp, focused, and alert when conducting site inspections, speaking and interacting with clients, preparing written reports of findings, and testifying in a deposition or trial. Clear vision and depth perception are also necessary.
Overtime—This position is classified as salaried with an exempt FLSA status. Regular working hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, with a one-hour lunch break. There will be periods when overtime will be required, which the employee must comply with to meet the demands of the position.
Travel Requirements—Travel may be required outside of the area and overnight.
