Description
- We are seeking an experienced and highly motivated Electrical Hardware Engineer to help develop the next generation of robotics, automation, and material handling systems for Amazon's operations. Our team owns end-to-end electrical system design and implementation for an emerging technology, integrating power distribution, controls, industrial networks, functional safety, and field devices. We are a small, hands-on team that develops systems from concept through pilot validation to scaled deployment. You will own hardware development workstreams, moving from requirements definition through component selection, detailed design, integration, validation and qualification, and field support. You will act quickly on two-way-door decisions to deliver safe, reliable systems at Amazon scale. The ideal candidate is a curious, detail-oriented builder who moves comfortably between component selection, detailed electrical design, analysis, and hands-on testing and troubleshooting. They bring clarity to interdisciplinary problems, use test results and field data to guide decisions, and know when a commercial component meets the need and when to develop new hardware. Key job responsibilities - Define hardware requirements and specifications - Develop modular, connectorized electrical hardware for power distribution, control cabinets, cable assemblies, and field devices - Select, specify, and qualify industrial components, and establish preferred-parts and approved-vendor standards - Partner with internal teams, suppliers, and manufacturing partners to evaluate hardware manufacturability, make-versus-buy decisions, cost, quality, and production readiness - Analyze components and assemblies, including sizing, derating, tolerance, and thermal performance - Develop part libraries, macros, schematics, and 3D layouts in EPLAN - Manage hardware configurations, bills of material, and engineering changes through PLM - Build prototypes and test setups to validate designs early - Plan and execute design verification and qualification testing, and use results to guide design decisions and improvements - Own hardware reliability, including FMEA, accelerated life testing, and field failure analysis - Apply relevant standards and produce qualification evidence for NRTL reviews and certification - Support builds, installation, and commissioning - Lead design reviews and provide technical guidance to other engineers
Basic Qualifications
- - Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent - 3+ years of experience developing electrical hardware for automation, robotics, material handling, or similarly complex electromechanical systems - Experience developing electrical schematics using ECAD platforms such as EPLAN, AutoCAD Electrical, SolidWorks Electrical, or similar - Experience with 3-phase, single-phase, and DC power distribution - Hands-on experience building, testing, and troubleshooting industrial electrical hardware - Experience applying industrial electrical standards such as UL 508A, NFPA 79, NEC, IEC 60204-1, or IEC 81346 - Ability to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally
