• This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Director, Software Engineering (Remote) based in United States. As Director, Software Engineering, you will lead the delivery and evolution of internally developed software supporting critical clinical research operations. You will combine hands-on technical leadership with responsibility for engineering strategy, team development, and software delivery excellence. The role spans architecture, application development, deployment, support, and software development lifecycle governance. You will establish scalable engineering practices while ensuring systems meet stringent security, quality, validation, and compliance requirements. You will also guide the responsible adoption of AI-assisted development tools to improve productivity, quality, and delivery outcomes. Working across engineering, architecture, quality, compliance, and business teams, you will help build reliable technology capabilities that can scale with organizational growth.
• Accountabilities: Lead the design, development, deployment, and ongoing support of secure, scalable, and maintainable software solutions supporting clinical research operations. Translate approved requirements, prototypes, and business concepts into production-ready applications, APIs, and data services. Remain actively involved in software design, architecture reviews, development, and code reviews while providing hands-on technical leadership. Own application release management, deployment processes, production readiness, operational support, and escalation processes. Establish and continuously improve SDLC standards covering code quality, testing, CI/CD, version control, change management, release governance, and documentation. Define engineering quality metrics, review processes, delivery standards, SOPs, and technical documentation that support operational excellence and audit readiness. Lead the responsible adoption and governance of AI-assisted development tools across software development, testing, documentation, and code review. Evaluate emerging technologies and development practices to improve engineering productivity, software quality, and delivery outcomes. Partner with Systems Engineering and Enterprise Architecture on application architecture, infrastructure requirements, infrastructure-as-code standards, and technology roadmaps. Ensure software development and infrastructure practices support long-term scalability, security, maintainability, and organizational growth. Collaborate with Quality, Compliance, and business stakeholders on validation, change control, risk management, audit readiness, and applicable regulatory requirements. Maintain appropriate controls, traceability, and documentation for GxP, SOC 2, and other applicable compliance frameworks. Lead, mentor, and develop software engineers through coaching, technical guidance, performance management, and career development. Build a high-performance engineering culture focused on accountability, collaboration, quality, continuous improvement, and professional growth. Partner with business and technology leaders to prioritize initiatives, allocate resources, manage delivery expectations, and develop staffing and hiring plans. Requirements: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field; equivalent professional experience may be considered. 8+ years of progressive software engineering experience, including at least 3 years leading engineering teams. Proven experience delivering, deploying, and supporting enterprise software applications in production environments. Strong hands-on development experience across web applications, APIs, and data services. Demonstrated experience establishing or significantly improving SDLC practices, including code review, testing, CI/CD, release management, and change control. Experience using AI-assisted development tools and implementing AI-enabled engineering practices within a software development environment. Knowledge of cloud architecture and infrastructure-as-code principles, with the ability to collaborate effectively with infrastructure and platform engineering teams. Proven ability to transform prototypes, technical concepts, and business requirements into scalable and maintainable production solutions. Strong understanding of software architecture, engineering standards, operational readiness, and application lifecycle management. Experience working in regulated environments such as GxP, 21 CFR Part 11, GAMP, or computer system validation is preferred. Experience in clinical research, life sciences, healthcare, or CRO environments is preferred. Experience scaling engineering teams, processes, or technology platforms within a growing organization is preferred. Familiarity with Azure, Entra ID, modern CI/CD platforms, and compliance frameworks such as SOC 2 is preferred. Excellent communication and documentation skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to business and executive stakeholders. Strong leadership, mentoring, collaboration, prioritization, and problem-solving skills. Benefits: $180,000–$200,000 annual salary.
