Job Description
Position Overview
The AU Accountant is responsible for supporting the finance function through the preparation of financial reports, tax compliance activities, reconciliations, and month-end processes. The role contributes to maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance with Australian taxation and accounting requirements, and supporting the financial operations of the business, including project-related activities within the mining and resources sector.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Reporting & Accounting
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements, reports, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
- Support month-end and year-end processes, including journals, reconciliations, and reporting requirements.
- Maintain accurate general ledger records and perform account reconciliations.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, and financial reporting.
- Support financial reporting relating to mining projects, operational expenses, and project costs.
Taxation & Compliance
- Prepare and lodge Business Activity Statements (BAS) and support compliance with ATO requirements.
- Assist with GST, FBT, payroll tax, PAYG withholding, and other tax obligations.
- Support income tax return preparation and liaise with auditors, tax consultants, and finance stakeholders.
- Ensure compliance with accounting policies, procedures, internal controls, and regulatory requirements.
Finance Operations
- Process payments and maintain records for payroll deductions, payroll tax, PAYG withholding, and intercompany recharges.
- Complete corporate card reconciliations and related payments.
- Support accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations as required.
- Maintain vehicle registers, toll accounts, and annual registration records.
Continuous Improvement
- Assist senior accountants with financial reviews and reconciliation activities.
- Contribute to process improvement and efficiency initiatives within the finance function.
- Perform other duties as required.

- CPA or CA qualification, or working towards this, is highly desirable.
- 3+ years of experience in accounting, with exposure to Australian taxation requirements.
- Experience in the mining or resources sector is advantageous but not essential.
- Strong knowledge of Australian tax requirements, including GST, BAS, PAYG withholding, payroll tax, and related compliance obligations.
- Proficiency in accounting software such as MYOB, Xero, Microsoft Dynamics 365, Pronto, or similar systems.
- Strong general ledger, reconciliation, financial reporting, and month-end support experience.
- Strong analytical skills and high attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-pace
