Job Description
The Area Manager serves as the operational leader for a designated TEiC area, responsible for establishing and maintaining area customers, preparing estimates and proposals, and providing cradle-to-grave project leadership. This position plays a pivotal role in driving business growth and ensuring project success through strategic decision-making, effective communication, and leadership.
Essential Roles and Responsibilities:
Commercial & Estimating Leadership
Ensure the development of accurate, competitive estimates and proposals that support profitable growth and align with TEiC’s short- and long-term strategies.
- Lead the preparation, review, and approval of area estimates using TEiC estimating templates and standards.
- Facilitate the transition of estimates into formal proposals, ensuring technical accuracy and commercial alignment.
- Submit proposals through internal TEiC commercial processes in compliance with company requirements.
- Lead the internal RFQ evaluation and bid/no-bid decision-making process in collaboration with key stakeholders.
Project Execution & Performance Oversight
Ensure successful execution of area projects from award through closeout, with a focus on safety, quality, schedule, and financial performance.
- Provide cradle-to-grave oversight of TEiC projects within the assigned area.
- Monitor project activities to ensure adherence to company procedures, policies, and contractual requirements.
- Lead internal and external project reviews from sales handoff through project completion.
- Identify performance issues and drive timely corrective actions to protect project outcomes.
Strategic Decision-Making & Risk Management
Make informed commercial and operational decisions that proactively manage risk and support business objectives.
- Lead risk identification and analysis for area projects, including financial, schedule, and execution risks.
- Recommend and implement mitigation strategies aligned with TEiC’s operational and commercial framework.
- Balance short-term execution needs with long-term strategic priorities when evaluating project and business decisions.
Customer & Stakeholder Leadership
Build and sustain strong customer relationships while ensuring alignment between sales, operations, and corporate leadership.
- Establish and maintain relationships with new and existing customers in alignment with TEiC’s sales strategy.
- Partner with BPI sales staff and internal stakeholders to support customer development and project pursuits.
- Provide clear, timely project updates to senior leadership, including progress, risks, and recommended actions.
People Leadership & Organizational Effectiveness
Develop strong project leadership teams and drive consistent performance across the area.
- Evaluate the effectiveness of project leadership and key personnel within the area.
- Provide coaching, mentorship, and performance feedback to support professional growth and accountability.
- Recommend staffing or organizational changes when needed to strengthen execution and results.
- Foster a culture of transparency, accountability, and continuous improvement.
Reporting & Continuous Improvement
Ensure accurate reporting, compliance, and ongoing operational improvement across the assigned area.
- Complete all required commercial, operational, and company reporting accurately and within assigned deadlines.
- Use reporting insights to identify trends, risks, and opportunities for performance improvement.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance consistency, efficiency, and execution quality.
- B.S. in Construction Management or Engineering, or strong construction industry related work experience.
- Minimum 5-7 years in field engineering, project management, or related experience within power generation, utility, or heavy industrial construction.
- Experience in power generation strongly preferred.
- Completion of OSHA 30-Hour Construction Safety Training (or equivalent) required prior to hire or within 30 days of onboarding.
- NCCCO Rigger Level I certification preferred; candidates without current certification may be considered if willing to obtain within 90 days of hire.
- Sound understanding of project controls and project risk management tools.
- Technical knowledge power plants and power equipment.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment; capable of adjusting priorities.
